Arizona Birthworkers of Color is an organization committed to fostering growth, community, and support for individuals of color engaged in birth-related professions throughout Arizona. During the celebration of Black Maternal Mental Health Week, I, Dr. Mathis, had the opportunity to discuss the critical importance of mental health. I highlighted that the journey to healing begins when individuals facing mental health challenges find the courage to voice their struggles and seek the necessary support without the burden of shame. This message underscores a significant cultural shift from perceiving silence as a form of strength to embracing a movement that encourages the acknowledgment of pain, advocates for appropriate care, and aims to reshape the narrative for future generations.
